perfect, lots of blue sky, slight breeze and most importantly sunshine. underfoot conditions were a little soggy in places but generally good for running with some excellent times including new male and female course records! we had a 114 starters with 3 people withdrawing so we managed a respectable 111 finishers. the race this year was won by james britton from carnethy hill racing club in a new course record time of 1.21.57, and first female was rachel newstead also from carnethy hill racing club and also in a new course record time of 1.38.50. result as follows. top males james britton check this regularly as this page will have any last minute changes or status updates on the race. the challenging route takes place in the beautiful pentlands scenery as you run from reservoir to reservoir, and starts and ends on the shore of threipmuir reservoir. on your travels you will pass threipmuir, loganlea, glencorse, bonaly, torduff, clubbiedean and harlaw reservoirs before returning to the starting point for well earned refreshments. although taking in many of the sights of the pentlands, the route is predominently low level and easily runnable in all but the most extreme conditions. however, because of the terrain the race is not recommended for novice runners. entry details entries will be managed as usual by entry central. click on this link to see the entries : the race will be run under scottish athletics rules, and entry will be 1 5 (sa affliated) and 1 7 (non-sa affiliated) the route will be almost entirely within the pentland hills regional park and the race organisers are extremely grateful to the park rangers for their help in putting on this race. littering along the race route is strictly prohibited, and anyone seen discarding litter with be immediately disqualified. despite being only a few miles from edinburgh, the weather in the pentlands can change rapidly and runners are expected to wear appropriate clothing for the prevailing weather conditions. it is suggested that a wind/waterproof jacket, hat and gloves should be carried as a minimum in case they are required. as the race will be run across open farmland with livestock, no dogs will be allowed on the course. getting there threipmuir reservoir is located in the pentland hills on the south of balerno, which itself is located to the west of edinburgh. follow the signs in currie or balerno to harlaw car park. car parking will be limited so please car share if possible. the race registration will be at harlaw farm (post code eh14 7as ) registration will open at 8.30am and close at 9.30am. from registration runners will make their way to the start and finish point at threipmuir farm. please allow 20 minutes to get to the start from registration. there will be charities the race organisers are delighted to help support the following charities: youth vision youth vision is a charity that was founded in 2005 by sara beauregard and claudia goncalves. they work with young people from south west edinburgh that are struggling with formal education, or are excluded from school, and are not engaged in training, or employment. they offer a range of nature based informal education services that aim to develop confidence and self-esteem to support a healthy transition to adulthood and more positive destinations. pentland hills ranger service the voluntary ranger service has operated in the pentland hills regional park since 1997 and continues to make an excellent contribution to the work of the regional park. voluntary rangers are individuals from a wide range of ages and backgrounds, including retired people, students and those with a keen interest in the pentland hills. they patrol the regional park at the weekends, giving advice to visitors and checking the state of the path network. there is also the opportunity to take part in biodiversity survey, back marking guided walks and helping at events. the voluntary rangers receive intensive training that enable them to assist in the delivery of park services. -- friends of the pentlands the friends of the pentlands seek to act as a catalyst to promote the conservation, protection and enhancement of the pentland hills, with particular emphasis on recreational quality, public access, cultural heritage, landscape and biodiversity. each year they organise a programme of walks and two talks. the walks are of varying length and difficulty. some have an educational theme, e.g. birds, social history, fungi etc, while others are simply to enjoy the countryside and the company of like-minded walkers. the talks are on topics related to the pentlands, i.e. biodiversity, history etc. they also undertake environmental projects and in recent years they have replaced a footbridge, undertaken a major way marking project, restored a wildlife pond, replaced a bird hide, planted trees, and put up bird boxes. tiphereth tiphereth is an independent edinburgh-based camphill charity for people with learning disabilities and other support needs. the chariy has three residential care homes, a wide variety of day services and a social enterprise. their vision is to integrate the holistic nature of camphill with the requirements of delivering an outstanding care service. the water of leith conservation trust the water of leith conservation trust works to conserve and enhance the river, its heritage and wildlife: the trust promotes education and recreation through the visitor centre, and works with volunteers and community groups to deliver around 100 river clean-ups and habitat improvement tasks annually. the trust was established in 1988 by residents concerned about edinburgh's river and its future. from small beginnings this voluntary organisation grew and in 1997 the trust was successful in obtaining funding for a 5 million capital project to complete the water of leith walkway and renovate the slateford school house into the water of leith visitor centre. today their mission is to conserve and enhance the water of leith as a haven for biodiversity and be an educational and recreational resource for all. -- childrens hospice association scotland chas is
